Dare To Wear: How To Take More Fashion Risks

AS SPRING UNFOLDS AND WE BEGIN TO SEE THE LUMINOSITY OF BRIGHTER DAYS, IT’S TIME TO ASK YOURSELF –

WHO DO YOU WANT TO BE THIS SEASON?

This time of year calls for a more hopeful, spirited, and dare I say riskier wardrobe, however, embracing said wardrobe can be a daunting process. It can feel like there are more ways to butcher an outfit than to pull it off. In this day and age, we can be all too sceptical to step outside of our comfort zones for fear of being scrutinised, but what’s fashion without risk?

Here are some tips to spruce up your spring capsule.

Welcome a pop of colour to an everyday outfit, whether it be through the shoe of the season, the spirited red mesh ballerina pump, or something as simple as adding a belt in a colour you might've once avoided.

Implementing a bold colour to a monochromatic look can be all it takes to transform an accustomed outfit into something noteworthy.

Have fun with accessories this spring, why not add a bit of personality by incorporating something unexpected? Try something subtle, like a sprightly fedora or if a hat isn’t calling your name, consider a patterned head scarf instead.

If you’re going for more of a corpcore vibe, take a leaf out of Zendaya’s book and play around with neckties. If you hadn't heard, they’re back, no doubt thanks to the resurgence of the 90’s corporate look, and can be the missing piece you never knew you needed.

Don’t shy away from playing with different hemlines!

Whether it’s a daringly high slit or an asymmetrical cut, unique hemlines can add a fresh and dynamic element to your outfit. Pairing a bold hemline with more classic pieces can balance out the risk factor.

Oversized garments are a fantastic way to make a statement while staying comfortable

Think oversized blazers, sweaters, or wide-leg trousers. These pieces not only add a sense of drama to your look but also offer a chic, effortless vibe.

The polished effect of throwing on something so large and structured it’s almost wearing you isn’t a new phenomenon, but if you’ve been apprehensive about exploring different silhouettes, you should give it a go. Who knows? You might just uncover a newfound confidence.

Shop outside the box, if you find yourself constantly scrolling the same websites and are always coming out with safe bets that aren’t exciting you, switch it up.

Why not try a vintage market? Where you will no doubt uncover something that’ll catch your eye. Sometimes, a cool jacket can be all it takes to shift your mindset.

Sometimes it can be beneficial to take a step back and let someone else style you.

If you have a stylish friend that comes to mind, simply let them pull pieces from your wardrobe into an outfit they think you could pull off. You’ll have the comfort of wearing your own clothes, but the twist, you’ll likely wear them in a way you never would’ve even thought of.

Fashion can be intimidating. Through social media we are constantly seeing perfect, articulated looks, but the truth is; most of us are just figuring it out as we go along.  Experimenting with your wardrobe to discover your own personal style can be liberating and if you discover your style is skinny jeans in 2024, that’s ok too! (Maybe try a straight leg though.)
